Going to brag on my Katie-girl for one small part of her awesomeness today.  I can't emphasize enough how much more I care about the fact that she is kind, engaged, passionate, and creative.  In our careers we know a whole lot of academically talented people who are unbearable jerks or who completely lack creative thinking. "Smarts" will get you in a lot of doors, but the rest depends on heart.  I have no doubt that Katie has the heart to apply her "smarts" in a way that will blow us all away.

That said: Katie took a fourth grade standardized exam in the spring and scored off the charts.  Crazy high.  So high that she qualified to take a "talent search" exam for the top performers wherein she took the same exam (mostly) but it was the one normally given to kids 2 grade levels higher.  She took it this morning and finished with time to spare and said it wasn't too hard.

Now we await her results.  The website says they'll be mailed in 2-4 weeks, but the email said they could be accessed online with no indication of if that meant " 24 hours" or " 2 weeks".  It was a computer-based exam so it should be soon.  Not that it matters, but every parent loves to see their kid excel at something that they also take a lot of pride in from doing well.
