Both kids got cookbooks for Christmas and have been reading them with tongues hanging out. Katie was marking pages with fingers as she went along and, in a fit of excitement, declared "Oh, my gosh! Angel food cake! I'm dropping scones!"
It took me a minute to realize that she meant she was moving her finger out of the scone page to use it for the cake. I think it should totally catch on as a phrase of total excitement. I won the lottery!? OMG, I'm dropping scones!
So anyhow, last night the kids made dinner and dessert. Jorge made French Cream Puffs with Chocolate Sauce (So yummy. One bite and you'll be dropping scones. (see how nicely that works?)) and Katie made bread in mini cups to make buns for the "sliders" and also baked burger patties in mini cups. The bread turned out way too big per slider, but the kids loved them and had them for dinner last night, lunch today, and dinner tonight. Cream Puffs, too. Tonight Jorge wanted to make an entree rather than dessert and picked a Chinese dish of ginger-y shrimp with red peppers. He diced the red pepper and onion and prepared the marinade and bathed the shrimp in it all mostly solo, and then did the stir-frying with a lot of motherly-supervision. In the end he decided he didn't really like shrimp much. We'll try it again soon with slivered chicken.
They have big dreams of tomorrow's culinary adventure but what they don't know is that we're making a SURPRISE TRIP and meeting up with A SURPRISE GUEST (or 2) who will be coming to our house for A SURPRISE WEEKEND! So many scones will be dropped.
