We took a family trip! No, correction, it was a family vacation. We went with my youngest sister and her husband and rented a big beautiful beach house. Four adults and three kids makes it an actual vacation.
One day, while August slept on the beach and the big kids played in the sand under the supervision of their aunt and uncle, Rob and I slipped off for a walk.
While everyone else took naps one day, we took a bike ride.
While the big kids went to the zoo with their aunt and uncle, Rob and I took August around to a playground and another bike ride.
One night Rob and I went on a real grown-up date at a restaurant. With wine and desserts with French names.
We did a 7 person attempt at putt-putt that ended with four very unhappy adults and three very wound up kids. You can't win them all.
We didn't hold the newlyweds hostage or anything. We did let them out for an evening alone, too.
It was divine. The weather was great, the company was even better. The jellyfish and horseshoe crabs weren't ideal but the rest of the trip more than made up for it. We've never done anything like this before, but for less than it would cost for 4 days in hotel rooms we split a comfortable house on the bay for a week. For all but one night and two lunches we ate at home, and we had enough room to spread out during naps and evenings to not feel too confined.
Happy, rested, lightly tanned, and grateful.
