Rob's pretty proud of his garden. We have sunflowers, corn, cucumbers, collard greens, peas, green beans, broccoli, hot peppers, carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, watermelon and, it seems, some hungry vermin.
Something was breaking off plants at the base and leaving the plant sprawled on the dirt untouched. It was maddening. Rob cut off 2-litre soda bottles to surround the corn plants and wrapped a fence around the garden, but they persisted.
A few days ago we were out in the garden and all looked fine. Bushy leaves on the broccoli and collard greens; pert pepper plants covered in buds, and blossoms aplenty. We went back in the house but as a precaution left the dog out.
An hour or so later we came out to find the dog asleep on the patio and the majority of the collard greens smashed and broken. A pepper plant took some damage, too. Rob was beside himself--how did Daphne just lay there while that....that....that something or other ravaged the garden yet again.
Um... Meet the something or other that I spotted laying on the collard greens and broccoli as I passed the window today.
The irony is just too too much.
